Children & Youth

Here at First Congregational Church we provide a number of opportunities for children to get involved.
Our Sunday School program is led by Shannon Hartmann,  Director of Religious Education. Shannon also leads the teenage group, Youth on a Mission, and works with Pastor Julie to teach the Confirmation Class every other year.

Sunday School is offered every Sunday during worship during the academic year. Children begin the service with their families and are dismissed to their classrooms after the Children’s Message in the sanctuary. The children then rejoin their families and church community when they say the blessing for Coffee Hour.

Some of our special events for children and families this year have included: Children’s Sunday, Here We Grow Sunday, Pajama Sunday, Water Day, baby goats on our lawn after worship, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Treating in the sanctuary, an all-ages Christmas pageant and a creative altar building for our children on Remembrance Sunday.

Cradle Roll

A room with a changing table, rocking chair, train tracks, kitchen and a
multitude of toys for toddlers. We have a speaker in this room to allow parents,
guardians or volunteers to listen to our wonderful worship service.

Sunday School

We offer Sunday School classes from Pre-K through 7th grade. Our curriculum is Bible based, and our teachers share the core lessons about God’s love through art, drama, stories and community.
Our (3) classrooms each have a teacher and a volunteer. Our classes are age appropriate.

Youth on a Mission

Youth on a Mission (YOM) is our church’s youth group for middle school and high school students. YOM has participated in an annual retreat in Jaffrey, NH, where they take a few days to delve deeper into their faith and their relationships with God and each other.  Youth on a Mission engages in service and leadership opportunities together in our community and with Bethel Lutheran Church.

Confirmation Classes

Every other year, 8th and 9th graders participate in an intensive faith formation program to learn about the Christian faith, our church practices and define their own spirituality in a special Children’s Sunday worship in June. Through outreach, weekly classes, Bible study, hearty conversation, and caring mentorship, our confirmation scholars develop a love for scripture and learn how to apply it to their lives.

All of our volunteers and staff working with children are required to complete annual CORE checks. We value the safety of our children.
